Nov 22, Virginia rated it liked it Shelves: historical-romance , read The story of the Hamilton sisters continues with Juliette and Captain Harrison. Of course, there are some cliches and clear anachronisms in terms of character actions, but who cares? It was also refreshing for me to see the characters grow, confront each other and call each other out on their stupid and hypocritical actions.

So rare for an author to bring up some "normal" objections and have them be resolved in a realistic way. I'm so pleased to have discovered O'Riley and I can't wait to read more of her books. Too bad I have to wait for the remainder of the series to be written. Nov 29, Winter Blanc rated it really liked it.

Well now I'm hooked. I noticed with this author that she gets to the point very fast while stretching out the solution. The characters realize there is some feeling between them and they act upon that feeling within the first handful of chapters. This fact annoys me a bit but I get over it once the story goes full swing.

Hamilton and Peggy!

There hasn't been a dull moment in this series so far and now I'm committed to finishing it. I love a good cheesy romance and the personalities that O'Riley has created with Well now I'm hooked. I love a good cheesy romance and the personalities that O'Riley has created with these Hamilton sisters are more than enough reason to read on. Oct 01, Quinn Fforde rated it really liked it. When Alexander tried to get out of the family vacation. When Philip Hamilton took "ride or die" way further than the Kardashians do. When Alexander Hamilton took control of his own story during a sex scandal. When Eliza Hamilton's response to Alexander's cheating was both furious and private. When the PamphletShade struggle got real.

When Eliza Schyuler fell in love with Alexander too? When Alexander won The Curse Game. Lauren Hoffman Lauren Hoffman writes about television, women in pop culture, and her feelings. Why did that seem right for him? I only got halfway through his song. Also, I love the Decemberists. So I was picturing that kind of an expansive, articulate voice.

But you ultimately had to cut him because it was just too much? I just felt like, we can jump across the ocean once, for King George. The show is Hamilton. Any other memorable cuts? There was a rap battle about slavery, where it was Hamilton and Jefferson and Madison knocking it from all sides of the issue.

Which is what happened in reality! So we realized we were bringing our show to a halt on something that none of them really did enough on. You know, he wore a brown suit at the Public.

If your mission is to make a story that happened odd years ago resonate with contemporary audiences, what are the ways in which you can eliminate distance? And, man, does that purple suit with a frilly blouse do that. Just like when we pull out those microphones for that Cabinet battle. We pull out 21 st century microphones! And I was against it, foolishly. Did any part of you pause, once you came up with the conceit of having a multi-racial cast playing the Founding Fathers?

Before I had even written two songs, I was talking to him about sort of helping me get the history right.

This story is more delicious and tragic and interesting than anything I could have made up. His son dying in a duel! Whenever I was in doubt as to creative license, I would always go back to his writings. That was the gut check.

And if you start from the premise that the truth is more interesting, that created the contours of our show. And also being really rigorous about sticking to Hamilton. Because there are so many avenues you could go down in this era. You could have done a whole show just about his childhood. You absolutely could have. I remember reading that someone had green-lit a movie just about his childhood, while I was still writing.

Or the murder trial where he was co-council with Aaron Burr. I got another really good piece of advice about this. I am very good friends with John Weidman, who is the book writer for Assassins and Pacific Overtures. Assassins is a great, twisted example of mixing history into a musical.
